HAPPY EASTER! Join us today for worship from home as we celebrate the resurrection. Many of us will watch together at 11 am but you are welcome to worship at anytime. Find the livestream here on our Scattered Church page. There will be a special Godly Play story told, with help from some of our children! You can also find it below, (but save it for worship first so the children can hear it there.)

Holy Week Saturday at home

EASTER SCAVENGER HUNT: Join us today for an Easter Family Scavenger Hunt at 11 am for parents and children. We will gather online to hear the story of Easter. Children will go hunting for items in their homes to help us remember and retell the story. Find the link in your email or the Coffee Talk Facebook group.

HOLY WEEK WALK: Walk through the events of this holy week with this telling from our friends at First Presbyterian Church in Dallas. You might want to listen while you take a walk around your neighborhood. There are a few pictures, but mostly scripture and sound, and this would make a lovely prayer walk for Saturday.

Holy Week Maundy Thursday at home

Watch the Godly Play story of the Last Supper , and then wonder together.

Wonder together:

  • I wonder how it felt to be around this table and to hear Jesus say, “Take, eat, this is my body broken for you”?
  • I wonder what Jesus could really mean?
  • I wonder if you have ever been close to a table like this?
  • I wonder how it would feel to have Jesus wash your feet?
  • I wonder how we can love each other like that?

Participate in our Maundy Thursday service at home. It includes a simple service of hand washing, for all ages. Find it on our FPCA Scattered Church webpage.

One more idea. I’m making an Easter Resurrection Garden this year. If you like to dig in the dirt, you might want to make one too. Keep it simple, and use your imagination, and whatever you have at home. Google “Resurrection Garden” for lots of inspiration! Here’s my plan:

Join us for Holy Week at Home

It’s a different Holy Week for us this year. Usually we would start by gathering for a joyful Palm Sunday Donkey Walk to Pritchard Park, then back to the sanctuary for palms and songs. We would gather again for a Maundy Thursday meal and communion, and a Good Friday service with special music. We’d have some kind of Easter gathering for children with eggs and probably some candy. We’d have Easter Sunday services with music and flowers and lots of hugs.

But not this year. Instead, we will be gathering more like the first disciples did, when they huddled in their homes, afraid of what was happening outside. But make no mistake: Easter is coming! Let’s figure out how to do Holy Week at home, and grow closer together with God, and with one another as we do.

Adults can find a guide for Holy Week with reflections from The Christian Century on our Scattered Church page of the FPCA website.

I’ll be sending out daily Holy Week at Home posts for families. They’ll be posted on the Coffee Talk Facebook page as well. There will be ideas for a daily Bible reading, all-ages activity ideas, prayer, and links for more if you want them. Look for a Palm Sunday post soon!

Want to get started now? Print out your own palm branches to color.

In the meantime, explore more ways to keep growing in faith on the other pages of the website. Godly Play. Ways to Grow in Faith. And Messages from our Faith Family.
